[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Maybe you’ve only just begun to notice those little, spider-like veins creeping up on different parts of your legs. Or maybe, you’ve been dealing with spider veins for years and have been putting off the need to take care of them for one reason or another.
Regardless of your history with Spider Veins, We know you know that your legs, and your health, will be better off without them in the long-term.
Spider veins are dilated capillaries whose primary role is to bring needed oxygen and nutrients to tissues within our body. They also remove any waste products. Spider veins have the ability to cause a bulge in the veins. They tend to branch out and spread. Once they spread they are very noticeable. And while they do not tend to cause pain, a spider vein is a sign of poor circulation and could lead to an increased risk of getting varicose veins sometime down the line.
Getting Rid of Spider Veins
At Fox Vein & Laser Experts in Hollywood, we proudly offer a wide range of vein removal treatments. We treat veins of all kinds, big and small, on patients of all ages. One of the most common complaints we get from our patients is that they’d like a fast, easy, effective way to ditch their spider veins – and we don’t blame them.
The most commonly asked question from these patients? What is the best way to get rid of spider veins? And by “best” we know they are also looking for a fast treatment with long-lasting results.
Our best spider vein removal treatment is hands down, sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution directly into the vein. The sclerotherapy solution causes the vein to scar, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. The collapsed vein is reabsorbed into local tissue and eventually fades.
In our office, sclerotherapy is often referred to as our “magic eraser” of spider veins as patients love to watch their veins disappear right before their eyes, as smoother, spider-vein free skin appears in its place. We offer two types of sclerotherapy here in our office: foam and traditional, and it’s important you know the difference between both before your first visit.
Traditional Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure, in which there are few risks because the solution is injected via a very small needle. A sclerosant solution will be injected into the affected vein. The solution is, of course, irritating to the lining of the vein. Soon the vein collapses and the sides of the vein stick together and dry up. The body can make new healthy veins and reroutes blood flow. There may be discoloration at the sites of injection which will fade and disappear altogether after a few months.
Foam Sclerotherapy is the same procedure as the traditional procedure except instead of injecting sodium chloride into the vein, the practitioner injects a foam sclerosant called Varithena mixed with air or foam solution into the vein. This new sclerosant means less is diluted and required for the procedure. The foam sclerosant encapsulates the entire vein from wall to wall and is easily tracked when injected into the vein assuring optimal results. The foam causes the damaged vein to collapse, dry up, and close. New healthy veins are created and blood rerouted.
Regardless of which procedure is best for your spider veins, one thing is for sure – you’ll be in and out of our office in no time and able to resume normal activity as no downtime is required following our sclerotherapy treatments. In two to six weeks, the treated area will be as good as new, and you’ll wonder however put up with those pesky little veins on your legs for so long.
