[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Are you plagued with large, discolored, and unsightly varicose veins on your legs? In the past, the only available treatments for vein removal were surgical. Let’s be honest, many people are frightened by the word ‘surgery.’ They may become too nervous or anxious to actually go through with it, and then their vein conditions and symptoms only get worse as time goes on without the proper treatment. Thankfully, there have been many medical advancements in recent years, and new technology released in the industry, that allow Aventura vein doctors to perform non-surgical treatments to remove veins and treat various vein conditions.
One of these non-invasive treatments is called Foam Sclerotherapy. This procedure uses innovative technology to remove large veins. It’s safe, effective, virtually painless, and requires no downtime, which is a total game-changer in today’s world where everyone is always on-the-go, with things to do and people to see.
You may be familiar with traditional sclerotherapy when a medicated solution is injected right into the affected vein(s), which then results in the lining of the vein walls to stick together and causes the blood to reroute through other, healthy veins. This particular procedure is very effective for smaller spider veins, but when it comes to treating larger veins, we need a little something more. That is where foam sclerotherapy comes into play. In this procedure, we are still using the medicated solution to treat the vein, but we’re kicking it up a notch by mixing it with small amounts of air to create a foam. When the solution is injected as a foam, it has the ability to reach the veins that traditional sclerotherapy can’t normally treat, i.e., larger veins and veins that are located deeper in the body. The foam consistency also allows more of the solution to be used, without injecting too much of it. Oftentimes, a Fort Lauderdale vein doctor will perform the procedure using ultrasound imaging. This helps the doctor to make sure the foam passes perfectly through the vein for optimal results.
After the foam is injected, it does its job to irritate the lining of the vessel walls, causing them to clot, and the blood can then flow freely through healthy veins and make its way to the heart. The vein that was treated will eventually be removed from the body naturally, and healthy tissue will grow in its place. Foam Sclerotherapy will not only drastically improve the appearance of your skin where the large veins were located, but it can also relieve the uncomfortable and painful symptoms that are associated with varicose veins, such as aching, swelling, burning, itching, cramping, and swelling.
As with any medical procedure, there is the possibility of side effects. According to the Mayo Clinic, there is not much risk for any serious complications with sclerotherapy, but you may experience temporary side effects around the area that was treated, such as bruising, redness, small sores, dark lines or spots, or tiny red blood vessels. Typically, side effects will only last for a few days, but they could last longer, anywhere from a couple of weeks to months or years to completely go away.
In some cases, although not too common, side effects may be experienced that do need to be addressed further to treat. These side effects include:
Inflammation, which although usually only mild, it could cause the injection site to swell, or feel uncomfortable. Treatment is simple — over-the-counter pain relievers will help to decrease the inflammation and symptoms that come along with it.
Blood clotting disorders could occur within the vein that was treated. If this happens, the clot may need to be drained. Do not ignore blood clots, as there could be potential for the clot to travel deeper in the body and cause a much more serious medical condition called deep vein thrombosis.
Little air bubbles might arise in the bloodstream that could cause headaches, fainting, nausea, and skewed vision. Although these minor symptoms usually go away on their own, it’s advised to contact your Miami Vein doctor if you experience any kind of problems with your limb movements after a sclerotherapy procedure.
Very rarely does this happen, but some people could discover that they are allergic to the medicated solution that is used during the treatment, and have some sort of a reaction, which would then require the necessary treatment.
